This course is intended for healthcare providers with clinical responsibilities in critical care areas including nurses, physicians, paramedics, respiratory therapists, physician’s assistants, residents or fellows, and medical or nursing students in training.
All participants must have a current Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers certification to participate in this course. Participants may complete the Online BLS for Healthcare Providers course and complete the skills testing portion during your ACLS course – simply select this option during the registration process.
The American Heart Association's Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support course is designed for healthcare providers who direct or participate in the resuscitation of a patient. Through didactic lecture and hands on practice in simulated scenarios, providers will enhance their skills in the treatment of the adult victim of a cardiovascular emergency.
ACLS emphasizes the importance of basic life support for patient survival including the integration of effective basic life support with advanced cardiovascular life support interventions and the importance of effective team interaction and communication during resuscitation.
ACLS is based on simulated clinical scenarios that encourage active, hands-on participation through learning stations where students will practice essential skills individually, as part of a team, and as team leader. Realistic simulations reinforce the following key concepts: proficiency in basic life support care; recognizing and initiating early management of peri-arrest conditions; managing cardiac arrest; identifying and treating ischemic chest pain and acute coronary syndromes; recognizing other life-threatening clinical situations (such as stroke) and providing initial care; ACLS algorithms; and effective resuscitation team dynamics.
If you have previously completed ACLS, check out our ACLS Update courses.
A pocket mask, American Heart Association ACLS Provider student workbook, and two-year ACLS Provider certification card are included in this course.
Includes a pocket mask, American Heart Association ACLS Provider student workbook, and two-year ACLS Provider certification card upon successful completion.
Proficient demonstration of skills and a score of 84% or higher on the written examination are required for certification. Students that do not achieve either of these will be remediated and allowed an additional attempt to test.
Successful completion of this course results in an American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification which is valid for 2 years from the date of the course.
