Neonatal Resuscitation Program

Neonatal Resuscitation Program

The NRPĀ® course conveys an evidence-based approach to care of the newborn at birth and facilitates effective team-based care for healthcare professionals who care for newborns at the time of delivery. NRP utilizes a blended learning approach, which includes online testing, online case-based simulations, and hands-on case-based simulation/debriefing that focus on critical leadership, communication, and team-work skills.

Completion of the program does not imply that an individual has the competence to perform neonatal resuscitation. Each hospital is responsible for determining the level of competence and qualifications required for someone to assume clinical responsibility for neonatal resuscitation.

CAUTION: The American Academy of Pediatrics has been advised that there are entities offering NRP “certification” or “verification” cards through online courses. Please be advised that these entities are not affiliated, associated with, or connected to AAP and they have no authority from AAP or the American Heart Association to make this use of NRP or to issue cards. The cards issued by these entities are not official AAP/AHA NRP Course Completion cards.

NRP is intended for healthcare providers including nurses, doctors, and midwifes that work in neonatal intensive care settings such as a NICU or delivery room. This program is also intended for critical care pre-hospital providers who may need to resuscitate a neonate in their professional duties.

Successful completion results in an AHA/AAP NRP certification card valid for 2 years.

The course fee is for NRP skills testing only. Participants will need to have a current student textbook (available for purchase during registration) and successfully complete the online written examination prior to attending their skills test. The written exam fee is paid directly to AAP when registering for the test.

Participants must complete the online NRP examination prior to their skills session. The skills session consists of hands-on practice for required NRP skills.

This course is not offered routinely but we will host a course for a group of 4 or more participants. Request a course:
