The American Heart Association Advanced ECG and Pharmacology course provides healthcare providers with the skills necessary to read and interpret electrocardiograms, recognize lethal arrhythmias, and understand the medications commonly used for advanced life support measures.

This course meets the pre-hire ECG course requirements for Hartford Hospital nurses.

The Advanced ECG and Pharmacology course is a 16 training program approved by Hartford Hospital for nursing pre-hire ECG course requirements. This course covers:

ECG

  • Cardiac Anatomy and Physiology
  • Obtaining a 12 lead EKG
  • Sinus Rhythms
  • Junctional Rhythms
  • Rhythm Recognition
  • Heart Blocks
  • Ventricular Rhythms
  • Pacemakers
  • Written Exam
 Pharmacology

  • Basic ACLS drugs and usage
  • Drugs, doses and routes of administration during cardiovascular emergencies
  • Integrating basic drug pharmacology into ACLS algorithms

This course is intended for healthcare providers with clinical responsibilities in critical care areas including nurses, physicians, paramedics, respiratory therapists, physician’s assistants, residents or fellows, and medical or nursing students in training.

It is a recommended preparatory course for Advanced Cardiac Life Support training.

Participants receive a certificate of completion for this course.

The American Heart Association ECG and Pharmacology student workbook and certificate of completion are included in this course.

A written exam is completed at the end of this program. A score of 84% or higher on the written examination is required for successful completion. Students that do not achieve this score will be remediated and allowed an additional attempt to test.
