FAQ
What is ACLS Provider Training?
ACLS Provider is an ACLS class for healthcare providers by the American Heart Association®, designed to help healthcare providers learn or refresh their advanced cardiac life support skills.
Code One Offers ACLS training through a Self Guided Learning™ program, where learners complete online coursework through the HeartCode® online learning module, and then come to a nearby center for an individual hands-on skills assessment appointment. Appointments are offered Monday through Saturday between 8:00 AM and 8:00 PM across 100+ locations, so you can come when it’s convenient for you.
Is this ACLS Provider Training approved by the American Heart Association?
Yes. ACLS Provider training is an approved American Heart Association® program that results in a two-year AHA ACLS Provider eCard.
I need to take an ACLS certification course. Am I in the right place?
Yes. After successfully completing ACLS training with any American Heart Association provider, learners will receive either a physical “course completion card” or an emailed “eCard”. These two cards have been colloquially referred to as “ACLS certification” or “American Heart Association certification”. While the American Heart Association does not use the term certification, you can be confident that the AHA eCard you earn at Code One fulfills your CPR training requirement.
When are ACLS Provider skills appointments offered?
Most Code One Training Centers accept appointments Monday through Saturday from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM, though the exact hours of operation may vary by location. Code One has over 100 locations, which offer ACLS Provider course skills sessions by appointment.
See our list of locations here.
Do I need to complete the HeartCode® online ACLS training course before scheduling an ACLS Provider Skills Session?
Yes. We require that the HeartCode® online ACLS training course be completed before you schedule the ACLS hands-on skills session to ensure that you have the coursework done and are ready for your appointment.
What’s the difference between ACLS Provider Training and ACLS Provider Skills Only?
ACLS Provider Training includes the required HeartCode® online ACLS training course, plus a hands-on skills verification appointment at Code One. This is the course that most learners require.
ACLS Provider Skills Only is just the ACLS skills check-off portion of the ACLS Provider course, and is restricted to learners who have already completed the American Heart Association HeartCode® online ACLS training course and have their certificate dated in the past year.
Both the HeartCode® online ACLS course and the hands-on skills session are required to earn your eCard, even if you are looking to renew your ACLS Provider eCard.
How long will it take to complete ACLS Provider Training?
The ACLS Provider Training Complete Package includes theory (HeartCode® online ACLS training course) and skills verification (ACLS Provider Skills).
The HeartCode® online ACLS training course takes about 2-6 hours to complete, depending on your previous knowledge, competency, and confidence. Since HeartCode® is an adaptive learning platform, it will adapt to your learning needs: If you find yourself benefiting from a more robust learning process, the platform will shift to incorporate more videos, examples, and practice opportunities to help you understand. If you’re an experienced healthcare provider, the platform will adjust to focus on knowledge verification.
The hands-on ACLS skills check-off session takes about an hour. Experienced rescuers may complete the skills more quickly.
All together, the AHA Advanced Cardiac Life Support Provider course runs between 3-7 hours, depending on your proficiency and experience levels.
What is the HeartCode® online ACLS Training Course?
The HeartCode® online ACLS training course is the American Heart Association’s theory portion of the ACLS course for healthcare providers. The HeartCode® course can be completed at home and on your own time. The course is adaptive and will adjust content based on the prior knowledge of the learner. Topics covered include:
- Acute coronary syndrome
- Stroke
- Adult cardiac arrest management
In order to meet ACLS Provider eCard requirements, learners are required to complete both the Heartcode online ACLS and the hands-on skills session.
What does an ACLS Provider Self-Guided Skills session look like?
During your ACLS skills check-off session, you will independently perform skills on a CPR Verification Station™ learning center which provides real-time feedback to help you master compressions and ventilations for both adults and infants. Our team will remotely supervise and will be available to assist if needed, but you will have your session without ongoing assistance from an instructor.
Your ACLS skills check-off session includes 6 skills:
- Adult compressions
- Adult ventilations
- Two-rescuer adult CPR
- Infant compressions
- Infant ventilations
- Two-rescuer infant CPR
Can I complete my BLS, ACLS, and PALS training at the same skills session?
Yes. Code One’s Healthcare Provider Bundle Package allows you to complete the online portion of the HeartCode online BLS, ACLS, and PALS courses, and then come in for a single skills appointment to cover skills for all three programs.
