Code One offers Heartsaver training through the American Heart Association’s Self-Guided Learning™ program, which utilizes a combination of adaptive online learning and a self-guided skills session to provide flexible, on-demand training tailored to your individual needs.

  • First, the Heartsaver online coursework must be completed. You can do this at home, on your own time. The course is adaptive and will adjust the pacing to your knowledge level, to bridge gaps in understanding.
  • Next, you’ll test your Heartsaver skills in person at one of our 100+ Code One locations, using a CPR Verification Station™ learning center. The equipment offers real-time, objective feedback during your appointment so you leave feeling confident in your abilities.
  • Upon successful completion of both the online coursework and the self-guided skills session, a two year Heartsaver Course Completion eCard will be sent directly to you.

FAQ

What is Heartsaver?

Heartsaver is an American Heart Association hybrid training course designed for lay rescuers who desire to learn or refresh their first aid and CPR skills.  Learners complete a portion of the course online and then come to our center for an individual skills appointment.

Is Heartsaver approved by the American Heart Association (AHA)?

Yes.  The Heartsaver program is an approved American Heart Association program that results in a two year AHA Heartsaver Course Completion eCard upon successful completion.

When are Heartsaver Skills Appointments offered?

Code One has over 100 locations which offer Heartsaver Skills Sessions by appointment.  While the exact hours of operation vary by location, most Code One Training Centers accept appointments Monday through Saturday from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM.  See our list of locations here.

Do I need to complete the online Heartsaver course before scheduling a Heartsaver Skills Session?

Yes.  We require that the Online Heartsaver course be completed before you schedule the Heartsaver Skills Session to ensure that you have the coursework done and are ready for your session.

What’s the difference between standard Heartsaver and Heartsaver Skills Only?

The standard Heartsaver course includes the required Online Heartsaver course plus a Hands-On Skills Verification appointment at Code One.

This is the course that most learners require. BEACON Heartsaver Skills Only is ONLY for learners who have already completed the American Heart Association Online Heartsaver course and have their certificate dated in the past year.

BOTH the Online Heartsaver and the skills session are needed to satisfy certification even if you are renewing your certificate.

How long will it take to complete Heartsaver?

Heartsaver includes theory (Online Heartsaver) and skills verification (Heartsaver Skills)

  • The online portion of Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED course can be completed in approximately 2-4 hours.
  • On average, the time to complete the hands-on skills session is 30 minutes.  Experienced rescuers may complete the skills in less time.

What is Online Heartsaver?

Online Heartsaver is the American Heart Association’s eLearning option for lay rescuers.  Topics include first aid emergencies, heart attacks, strokes, and CPR and use of an AED for adults, children, and infants.

In order to meet Heartsaver certificate requirements, learners are required to complete both the Online Heartsaver course and the hands-on skills session. The Heartsaver Complete includes the Online Heartsaver course and the individual skills appointment at a Code One Training Center.

What does the Self Guided Skills session look like?

During your hands-on CPR skills session you will independently perform skills on a CPR Verification Station learning center which provides real-time feedback to help you master compressions and ventilations for both adults and infants. Our team will remotely supervise and will be available to assist if needed, but you will have your session without ongoing assistance from an instructor.
