FAQ
What is PALS Provider Training?
PALS Provider is a hybrid PALS training class for healthcare providers by the American Heart Association®, designed to help healthcare providers learn or refresh their pediatric advanced life support skills.
Code One Offers PALS training through a Self Guided Learning™ program, where learners complete online coursework through the HeartCode® online learning module, and then come to a nearby center for an individual hands-on skills assessment appointment. Appointments are offered Monday through Saturday between 8:00 AM and 8:00 PM across 100+ locations, so you can come when it’s convenient for you.
Is PALS Training approved by the American Heart Association (AHA)?
Yes. PALS Provider Training is an approved American Heart Association program that results in a two-year American Heart Association PALS Provider eCard. If you’re looking to complete your AHA PALS renewal, you’re in the right place.
Is the PALS Provider eCard the same thing as the PALS Provider certification?
Yes. After successfully completing PALS Provider training with any American Heart Association provider, learners will receive either a physical course completion card or an emailed eCard, often colloquially referred to as a “PALS Provider certification.” While the American Heart Association does not use the term certification, you can be confident that the BLS Provider eCard you earn at Code One fulfills your PALS training requirement.
When and where are PALS Provider skills appointments offered?
Most Code One Training Centers accept appointments Monday through Saturday from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM, though the exact hours of operation may vary by location. Code One has over 100 locations, which offer PALS Provider course skills sessions by appointment.
See our list of locations here.
Do I need to complete the HeartCode® online PALS training before scheduling a PALS Provider skills Session?
Yes. We require that the HeartCode® online PALS course be completed before you schedule the PALS Provider skills session to ensure that you have the coursework done and are ready for your appointment.
What’s the difference between PALS Provider Training and PALS Provider Skills Only?
PALS Provider Training includes the required HeartCode® online ACLS training course, plus a hands-on skills verification appointment at Code One. This is the course that most learners require.
PALS Provider Skills Only is just the PALS skills assessment portion of the PALS Provider course, and is restricted to learners who have already completed the American Heart Association HeartCode® online PALS training course and have their certificate dated in the past year.
Both the HeartCode® online PALS course and the hands-on skills session are required to earn your eCard, even if you are looking to renew your PALS Provider eCard.
How long will it take to complete the PALS Provider Training?
The PALS Provider Training includes theory (HeartCode® online PALS training course) and skills verification (PALS Provider Skills).
The HeartCode® online PALS training course takes about 2-6 hours to complete, depending on your previous knowledge, competency, and confidence. Since HeartCode® is an adaptive learning platform, it will adapt to your learning needs: If you find yourself benefiting from a more robust learning process, the platform will shift to incorporate more videos, examples, and practice opportunities to help you understand. If you’re an experienced healthcare provider, the platform will adjust to focus on knowledge verification.
The hands-on PALS skills assessment takes about an hour. Experienced rescuers may complete the skills more quickly.
All together, the AHA PALS course runs between 3-7 hours, depending on your proficiency and experience levels.
