Code One CPR training combines online Heartsaver coursework with hands-on skills sessions
Code One offers the Heartsaver CPR course through a Self-Guided Learning™ program, which combines adaptive online learning with a self-guided skills session to provide flexible, on-demand training tailored to your individual needs.
Step one: Flex to your schedule by completing the Heartsaver coursework online
The HeartCode® online training can be completed at home, on your own time. The course is adaptive and will adjust the pacing to your knowledge level, targeting any gaps in your understanding.
Step two: Complete your Heartsaver CPR course with a self-guided, hands-on skills assessment
After you’ve completed the online coursework, your Heartsaver CPR skills will be tested at one of our 100+ Code One locations, using computerized CPR manikins. The equipment offers real-time, objective feedback during your appointment, so you leave feeling confident in your abilities.
Upon successful completion of both the online coursework and the self-guided hands-on skills session, a two-year AHA Heartsaver Course Completion eCard will be sent directly to you.

FAQ
What is Heartsaver?
Heartsaver is American Heart Association hybrid training course designed for lay rescuers who desire to learn or refresh their first aid and CPR skills. Learners complete a portion of the course online and then come to our center for an individual skills appointment.
Is Heartsaver approved by the American Heart Association (AHA)?
Yes. Heartsaver CPR training is an approved American Heart Association® program that results in a two-year AHA Heartsaver Course Completion eCard upon successful completion.
Code One is an Authorized Premier Distributor of American Heart Association CPR training courses.
Do I need a medical background to take the Heartsaver CPR training course?
No. The Heartsaver course is open to anyone in the general public who would like to develop or refresh their CPR and First Aid skills. It’s an ideal course for teachers, babysitters, or nannies, who may not require a medical-grade certification but still want to demonstrate capability with a course completion eCard.
When and where are Heartsaver skills appointments offered?
Most Code One Training Centers accept appointments Monday through Saturday from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM, though the exact hours of operation may vary by location. Code One has over 100 locations, which offer the Heartsaver skills sessions by appointment.
See our list of locations here.
Do I need to complete the online Heartsaver course before scheduling a Heartsaver Skills Session?
Yes. We require that the online Heartsaver course be completed through HeartCode® before you schedule the hands-on session, to ensure that you understand the coursework and are ready to learn the skills.
What’s the difference between Heartsaver and Heartsaver Skills Only?
Heartsaver includes the required HeartCode® online Heartsaver training course, plus a hands-on skills verification appointment at Code One. This is the course that most learners require.
Heartsaver Skills Only is just the skills assessment portion of the Heartsaver CPR course, and is restricted to learners who have already completed the HeartCode® Heartsaver online training course in the past year.
Both the HeartCode® online Heartsaver course and the hands-on skills session are required to earn your eCard, even if you are looking to renew your eCard.
How long does it take to complete Heartsaver?
Heartsaver includes theory (online HeartCode® Heartsaver training course) and skills verification (Heartsaver Skills).
The HeartCode® online Heartsaver training course takes about 2-4 hours to complete, depending on your previous knowledge, competency, and confidence. Since HeartCode® is an adaptive learning platform, it will adapt to your learning needs: If you find yourself benefiting from a more robust learning process, the platform will shift to incorporate more videos, examples, and practice opportunities to help you understand. If you’re more experienced, the platform will adjust to focus on knowledge verification.
The hands-on Heartsaver skills assessment takes about 30 minutes.
All together, the Heartsaver CPR course runs a little under 3-5 hours, depending on your proficiency and experience levels.
What does the in-person skills session look like?
Once you arrive for your scheduled appointment to a Code One Training Center location, check in using the instructions in your confirmation email. You’ll receive a phone call with the door code for entry, which will allow you access to a private room with CPR manikins and a TV screen. You’ll connect virtually to your CPR coach, who will train you on Heartsaver CPR and support you throughout your hands-on skills session.
