FAQ
What is hands-only CPR?
Hands-only CPR refers to the administration of chest compressions to a person who has collapsed. It does not include mouth-to-mouth breathing. In “CPR Superhero,” you will learn how to identify a person that may need CPR, and how to perform life-saving compressions.
How effective is hands-only CPR in emergencies?
Hands-only CPR is extremely effective as a life-saving measure. According to the American Heart Association®, 90% of cardiac arrests that happen outside of a hospital setting result in death. When CPR is administered immediately following cardiac arrest, often by a bystander, survival rates can double or triple.
How does hands-only CPR work?
Hands-only CPR works by helping the victim to maintain the flow of oxygen throughout the body during cardiac arrest, when the heart is unable to pump blood and oxygen. It keeps vital organs alive until the heart resets after the shock of a defibrillator (AED), or until skilled help arrives.
Is the “CPR Superhero” training approved by the American Heart Association®?
No. This program is designed by Code One and is for general knowledge only. It does NOT confer a CPR eCard. If you are required to have a CPR certificate for work, please see our Heartsaver or BLS Provider courses for American Heart Association eCard training.
