Intended Audience

This course is intended for individuals responsible for the care of children and infants - particularly childcare providers, babysitters, camp counselors, and parents. This course is also appropriate for members of the community who want to be prepared in the event of a cardiac arrest or serious life threatening injury.

 

There are no prerequisites for this course.

Course Description

The American Heart Association Heartsaver Pediatric First Aid CPR AED course teaches how to recognize and treat sudden illness and injury in children and infants. Participants learn how to provide CPR and to use an Automated External Defibrillator.

Course topics include:

  • Medical emergencies including allergic reactions, asthma attacks, seizures, and diabetes
  • Injury management including bites and stings, bleeding control, and splinting
  • Environmental emergencies such as heat stroke and hypothermia
  • Relief of choking
  • CPR AED for adults, children, and infants

This course is specifically designed for those who are responsible for caring for children and infants. It is also appropriate for members of the community who want to be prepared in the event of a cardiac emergency or serious life threatening emergency.

This course meets Connecticut Office of Early Childhood (OEC) requirements for licensed childcare providers.

 

Participants complete a portion of this course online with a virtual instructor.  Upon completion, participants will schedule an in-person skill session appointment at a Code One Training Center.  The online training takes about 6 hours and the in-person skills portion takes about 1 hour to complete.

Course Materials

A pocket mask, first aid materials,  American Heart Association Heartsaver Pediatric First Aid CPR AED Student eBook, and two year certification are included in this course.

Course Fee

$145 - Includes pocket mask, first aid materials, student eBook, and two year American Heart Association Heartsaver Pediatric First Aid CPR AED certification upon successful completion.

Examination

Participants complete a portion of this course online with a virtual instructor.  Upon completion, participants will schedule an in-person skill session appointment at a Code One Training Center.  Participants who do not successfully complete the skills test are remediated and allowed an additional attempt to test.

Certification

Successful completion of this course results in an American Heart Association Heartsaver Pediatric First Aid CPR AED certification which is valid for 2 years from the date of the course.
