ZOLL and PulsePoint Advocate for Universally Accessible AED Registry
ZOLL’s donation of the National AED Registry ™ to the Emergency AED Registry, hosted by PulsePoint, optimizes dispatch and citizen responder accessibility to AED locations.
PLEASANTON, Calif. (September 18, 2024)—The PulsePoint Foundation, a public non-profit 501(c)(3) that builds public safety applications and maintains the Emergency AED Registry, announced today that ZOLL®, an Asahi Kasei company that manufactures medical devices and related software solutions, has donated the National AED Registry™ to PulsePoint. ZOLL’s donation will increase emergency call taker access to known AED (automated external defibrillator) locations for use during cardiac arrest call processing.
The donation represents a shared belief that every AED in the U.S. and Canada, regardless of brand, should have the option of being accessible to all communities. Donating the National AED Registry, which was created in 2004 and managed by ZOLL since 2017, to the Emergency AED Registry increases the number of devices that can be identified for nearby need, regardless of manufacturer or whether they are part of a paid service.
24/7 access AEDs installed in all Lincoln parks for emergencies
LINCOLN – Local officials said secure yet accessible AEDs and Narcan in Lincoln parks are crucial and potentially life-saving resources.
An AED, short for automated external defibrillator, is used to help someone who is experiencing cardiac arrest. Narcan, or Naloxone, is a narcotic overdose treatment.
“It’s something you hope you never have to use, but now, if someone is in an emergency situation, it’s there,” said Town Administrator Phil Gould.
Though first responders are equipped with AEDs and Narcan, Sean Thompson, Lincoln’s Emergency Management Agency director and Chief of the Rescue department, said he, Gould, and other officials felt these tools should be more easily accessible to the general public.

“I was afraid of dying. Saved by the defibrillator”
The story of the Bando footballer Rocco Corbino after the illness on the pitch “I felt a strong pain in my chest and I went out: after that I don’t remember anything else”.
“We all worked hard to save Rocco – says president Sergio Frighi – when he felt ill I called 118 and also the emergency helicopter. I would like to thank in particular two players from Ostellatese, Simone Gobbo and Niccolò Righini: the first performed cardiac massage and the second used the defibrillator. Another thank you to the mother of an athlete, a nurse, who made an important contribution”. And he concludes: “Without the defibrillator, Rocco would not have been saved. We equipped ourselves with this life-saving instrument in 2015, when it was not yet mandatory. There are people within the company who are qualified to use it, but what counts is keeping a cool head in the moments that count, when even seconds make the difference. In this case, the two players from Ostellatese were decisive in saving Rocco’s life”.

Outdoor AED installed on St. Cloud’s east side
The St. Cloud Metro Lions Club, owners of the 539 Building, Benton Economic Partnership and Advocates for Health collaborated to bring an outdoor AED machine to St. Cloud’s east side.
Advocates for Health is combating that issue by installing outdoor automated external defibrillator (AED) cabinets, including the latest one in east St. Cloud. It’s the result of a collaboration among the Benton Economic Partnership, the St. Cloud Metro Lions Club and owners of the 539 Building in St. Cloud.
“With this amount of people in the area … It just made sense to have one accessible, not just for this area, but for the general public,” 539 Building owner Kevin Johnson told St. Cloud LIVE about the cabinet outside of Iron Street Distillery. “That’s why we wanted to put it outside, in case we’re closed up so people can swing in here and use it.”

Bid to put ‘comms hub’ with defibrillator on busy shopping street thrown out due to ‘harm to character’ of town centre
Plans for a town centre ‘communication hub’ including a public defibrillator and phone charging ports have been thrown out by a planning inspector. Infocus Public Networks Limited had previously sought planning permission to put the hub at Haymarket Street in Bury town centre.
The hubs would also have advertising screens. However, when the council rejected the scheme earlier this year Bury Council’s conservation team said the unit on Haymarket Street would be an ‘incongruous contemporising feature within the setting of the conservation area’.
The decision notice from Bury Council stated that the hubs would lead to the ‘creation of additional street clutter for an installation that primarily consists of an advertisement screen’. That decision was heavily criticised by a leading defibrillator charity as being ‘naive’.

Public use AED SaveStation installed in Wausau to treat cardiac arrest episodes
WAUSAU, Wis. – The Wausau community is hoping to decrease the number of fatal cardiac arrest incidents by adding a public AED SaveStation.
It will allow bystanders of a cardiac arrest episode to take action by using and AED along with CPR.
More than 436,000 people die from cardiac arrest each year, according to the American Heart Association, and only around 10% of those people survive cardiac arrest episodes.
But with more publicly available AEDs, people have a better chance at surviving, according to the City of Wausau.

AEDs installed on the North Shore’s Grouse Grind trail
In a move that could very well save lives, AEDs, or automated external defibrillators, have been installed along the busy Grouse Grind hiking trail in North Vancouver.
The three devices went up last week at the quarter, halfway and three-quarter marks along the route.
Tyler Langeloo, supervisor of park operations at Metro Vancouver, told CTV News the decision to install the equipment came from conversations with firefighters and search and rescue volunteers who respond to medical incidents on the trail.
When the trail closes for the winter months, the AEDs will be removed, but Langeloo says they’re likely to be back when the Grind reopens in the spring barring any issues.

After working out, he went into cardiac arrest. His wife saved him with CPR.
Luis and Beth Padron spent a chilly Sunday morning in January strength training in their Monroe, New Jersey, home. Afterward, Beth stretched while Luis went to shower. The rest of the day, they had errands to run. Beth was going to cook a nice family dinner.
As Beth cooled down, she heard a thud from upstairs. It sounded like something hit the roof. Her daughter, Eliana, who was 15, was beside her. Beth yelled out to her other daughter, Rebecca, then 17. She was upstairs studying and was OK.
“Let’s just check on Daddy,” Beth said to Eliana. Beth yelled for Luis to see if he was OK.
Upstairs, she knocked on the locked bathroom door. Luis, her husband of 19 years, didn’t respond.
