FAQ

What is PALS Provider Training?

PALS Provider is an American Heart Association® hybrid training designed for healthcare professionals who desire to learn or refresh their pediatric advanced life support skills. Learners complete a portion of the course through an online Self Guided Learning™ module and then come to our center for an individual skills appointment. Appointments are offered Monday through Saturday between 8:00 AM and 8:00 PM so it’s easy to find a convenient time to come in.

Is PALS Provider Training approved by the American Heart Association (AHA)?

Yes. PALS Provider Training is an approved American Heart Association program that results in a two year American Heart Association PALS Provider eCard.

When are PALS Provider skills appointments offered?

Code One has over 100 locations which offer PALS Provider skills sessions by appointment. While the exact hours of operation vary by location, most Code One Training Centers accept appointments Monday through Saturday from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM. See our list of locations here.

Do I need to complete the HeartCode® online PALS course before scheduling a PALS Provider skills Session?

Yes. We require that the HeartCode® online PALS course be completed before you schedule the PALS Provider skills session to ensure that you have the coursework done and are ready for your appointment.

What’s the difference between PALS Provider Training and PALS Provider Skills Only?

PALS Provider Training includes the required HeartCode® online PALS course plus a Hands-On Skills Verification appointment at Code One. This is the course that most learners require.

PALS Provider Skills Only is RESTRICTED to learners who have already completed the American Heart Association HeartCode online PALS course and have their certificate dated in the past year.

BOTH the HeartCode online PALS course and the skills session are needed to satisfy certification even if you are renewing your certificate.

How long will it take to complete the PALS Provider Training?

BLS Provider Training includes theory (HeartCode® online PALS course) and skills verification (PALS Provider Skills).

Here’s the approximate time it takes to complete each one:

  • The HeartCode online PALS course is an adaptive learning platform which will adapt to your learning needs. If you find yourself benefiting from a more robust learning process the platform will shift to incorporate more videos, examples, and practice opportunities to amplify your competency. On the other hand if you are an experienced healthcare provider, the platform will adjust to focus on knowledge verification. Depending on where you are on the spectrum of competency and confidence, Heartcode PALS can be completed in approximately 2-6 hours.
  • On average, the time to complete the hands-on skills session is about one hour.  Experienced rescuers may complete the skills in less time.

What is the HeartCode® online PALS Course?

HeartCode online PALS is the American Heart Association’s theory portion of its PALS Provider Training (CPR and AED for healthcare providers). The HeartCode online PALS course can be completed at home and on your own time. The course is adaptive and will adjust content based on the prior knowledge of the learner. Topics include respiratory management, shock, and pediatric cardiac arrest management.

In order to meet PALS Provider certificate requirements, learners are required to complete both the Heartcode online PALS and the hands-on skills session.

PALS Provider Training includes the Heartcode online PALS course and the individual skills appointment at a Code One Training Center location.

What does a PALS Provider Self-Guided Skills session look like?

During your hands-on CPR skills session you will independently perform skills on a CPR Verification Station learning center which provide real-time feedback to help you master compressions and ventilations for both adults and infants. Our team will remotely supervise and will be available to assist if needed, but you will have your session without ongoing assistance from an instructor.

Your PALS Skills Session includes 6 skills:

  • Adult compressions
  • Adult ventilations
  • Two-rescuer adult CPR
  • Infant compressions
  • Infant ventilations
  • Two-rescuer infant CPR

Can I complete my BLS, ACLS, and PALS training at the same skills session?

Yes. Code One’s Healthcare Provider Bundle Package allows you to complete the online portion of the HeartCode online BLS, ACLS, and PALS courses and then come in for a single skills appointment to cover skills for all three programs.
