EMS Continuing Education Course Focused on Mental Health
8 Hour Instructor-Led Mental Health Training
The Mental Health First Aid course is conducted in person at certain Code One Training Center locations. The National Council for Behavioral Health Mental Health First Aid student workbook and completion certificate are included in the course.
What is the Mental Health First Aid Course?
This course meets with a live, virtual instructor on the Zoom Meeting platform. Mental Health First Aid teaches how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental illnesses and substance use disorders. The course introduces participants to risk factors and warning signs of mental health concerns, builds understanding of their impact and provides an overview of common treatments. Through role-playing and simulations, it demonstrates how to assess a mental health crisis; select interventions; provide initial help; and connect people to professional, peer and social supports as well as self-help resources.
Intended Audience
This course is designed for EMS and healthcare providers who routinely work with patients who may be experiencing mental health emergencies.
Course Topics
Participants are introduced to local mental health resources, national organizations, support groups and online tools for mental health and addiction treatment and support.
Certification
Successful completion results in a certificate of completion from the National Council for Behavioral Health.
